ONEr FAQs

Frequently (okay not that frequently but reasonably regularly) asked questions about the Peak Divide ONEr - the one day version of the Peak Divide; a 76km ultra-fun-run from Sheffield to Manchester across the Peak District National Park.

What’s the difference between the Peak Divide Classic and the Peak Divide ONEr?
They follow the same 76km route with the Classic running over two days, starting in Manchester and finishing in Sheffield with an overnight camp. Our OG ultra-fun-run.

The ONEr is run over just one day and switches direction, starting in Sheffield and finishing in Manchester.

04h00 Sheffield City Centre

Who is the ONEr for?
It’s for the ultra-curious. Anyone who has wondered what journeying over that kind of distance might be like, who may be making the step up from something like the Classic, trail marathon or anything less than 76km in one go. The ethos, early start, multiple food and drink checkpoints are all there to help break down that big distance.

It’s no mean feat, so it is for more experienced ultra runners too - you’ll have a blast. Especially those who either love or have never visited the Peak District, Manchester or Sheffield.

Is the ONEr a race?
No.

Brevet card. Be brave. Eat your butty.

Are dogs allowed?
Yes, for sure. It helps if they’re happy running in a group, so bare that in mind and keep them on leads when required.

Is there a mandatory carry list?
Yes, it can still get pretty wild up on Kinder Scout even in late September so you will have to carry some essentials for safety, but nothing you can’t fit in a 10-12l running vest. You’ll need a headtorch for the start, too.

What time do you start?
We’ll have a couple of waves, 4am and 5am - the idea being that you set off earlier if you think you need/want more time to get to Manchester. More confident runners set off at 5am.

Descending into CP2, Edale.

Is the route signed?
Nope, all our events are self navigated so part of the experience is finding your way using a watch or an app like Komoot on your phone. However the route is easy to follow and we’ll have Beacon Runners in the pack to help with pacing, navigation or just a bit of good company.

Will there be a Mt. Malibu?
No, sadly not. A sip of delicious coconut liquer may be perfect at the end of day 1 on the Classic but not so good half way through the ONBr. There may be some other delights though…

Trail-misu at 52km. Mic drop.

Will I get to go to Gee Cross Tesco Express?
Yes, bring your clubcard - it’s at 57km in, just before you hit the canals in to Manchester. Essential re-supply.

Are there feedstops?
Yes, we specialise in remote feedstops and they aren’t just a bowl of soggy Jelly Babies. The route has several CPs to aim for with food and drink to cater for the weather conditions.

What is the terrain like?
It’s a trail run with lots of variety and 90% of it is off-road.

Kinder plateau, 600m.

How do I get back to the start?
That’s the beauty of this city to city route - it’s linked by a train line. So there are bail-out points along the way (if you really, really need them) and you can get back to Sheffield, or to wherever you want from Manchester Piccadilly, a 5 minute hobble from the finish venue if you can tear yourself away from the Finishers Party.

Is is safe?
Very. We’ll be reachable along the whole route via a group whatsapp, have multiple first aiders and Beacons on hand throughout. We also work with local mountain rescue to ensure we’re ready for any situation.

Finish line feels, Manchester.
